{THE NAVICONS IN THE BODY OF THIS FILE HAVE BEEN DISABLED!}

Obviously enough, this is a complete Doctor of Philosophy thesis, lightly edited and with HTML tags added.

The language is probably rather 'heavy', turgid, and difficult for folks not used to reading this kind of material.

To make things easier, I have put NavIcons in every Chapter and/or Chapter Section at the top and bottom of each Chapter and/or Chapter Section. They are straightforward to understand and follow:

If you get lost, just click on the Table of Contents Icon at the top or bottom of any file ---> to go to the Table of Contents. Everything is linked back to this key file.

Citations

The Harvard/American Psychological Association System of citations has been used, which has the advantage of not cluttering the text up with 'Real' Footnotes at the bottom of each page, or Endnotes collected at the end of each Chapter, but it means that you have to go to the Bibliography File ---><--- if you want to check a Reference for a citation.

How to Approach the Thesis

To get a very brief overview of the Thesis, start at the Abstract and then go to Part One Chapter One. You can then work your way through the rest of the Thesis.

If you are familiar with Weber, Critical Theory, and Political and Liberation Theology, jump ahead to Part One Chapter Five, and then go to Part Two Chapter Three.

If you are interested in Nonviolence, you can go straight to Part Two Chapter Two and Chapter Three, but you might like to jump back to Part One Chapter Five to read the theory I am applying to Nonviolence in those later Chapters.

If you are interested in Political and Liberation Theology, go to Part One Chapter Four and then to Part One Chapter Five to see how I draw critical theory and these theologies together.

My critique of Peace Research in Part Two Chapter One is best understood by first reading Part One Chapter Five.

If you want to see what you can actually do with the theory in the thesis in contexts other than peace research and nonviolence - which is always a criterion I apply to any theoretical edifice: "That's all very well and erudite, but what can you actually do with this stuff??" - have a look at my Whistleblower Book Review Essay.
